Hope's brother Warren, who recognized her "kidnappers" from the last book, has been sent by his mother to get Hope back. The action is as suspenseful as in the previous volumes, and the resolutions to the story's many mysteries are hard won, though a bit creepy. The book is a nuanced and open-ended tale of sacrifice, redemption, and forgiveness.

When Robert unaccountably finds himself lost in a jungle and defending himself against huge, monstrous animals, it seems as if we're reading some kind of alternate-reality story. In fact, he's just across the street from his house, but grown very tiny. This first volume of a projected trilogy generates plenty of excitement and suspense but ends very much up in the air.

In this riveting sociological and psychological thriller, self-reliant Ashley has a secret: her alter-ego, "Cindy," the in-your-face graffiti artist who has been tagging walls all over her decaying urban neighborhood. Ashley's daring attracts the notice of the local gang leader, and at the same time she begins to receive threats addressed directly to Cindy. With a nail-bitingly suspenseful climax and satisfying ending, this is a taut-as-a-tightrope tale.
