Jack explains six ocean terms--including clown fish, sea horse, and oyster bed--to a space alien who wants to know, "Why some names in the sea / Are the same as on land." The premise is a stretch, and the rhyming text sometimes sounds forced. Mixed-media illustrations feature pictures from Jack's sketchbook as well as drawings that reflect the alien's questions.
