In this brief, lyrical celebration of pond life, a family sets out to catch a frog and ends up observing a wide variety of other animals and insects. While they give the book a somewhat nostalgic, sentimental look, the tinted color photos make the pond animals easier to see. An endnote provides useful information about observing frogs, but set in tiny type at the back, it may be too easily overlooked.
