In this panoramic narrative, two of John Cabot's sons travel to the New World, while middle son Sebastian remains behind in Bristol. Youngest son Sancio records his experiences as Cabot's crew is shipwrecked, clashes with natives, and ultimately becomes victim to another European fleet. Though involving, the lengthy novel is slowed by the inclusion of excessive background information.

Nineteen-year-old Cyrus Nygerski, a washed-up minor league pitcher, meets the mysterious Cassandra and becomes involved in a world of werewolves and time travel. In a parallel story, Cassandra's younger brother relates (in an unconvincing voice) another version of the same events. Cyrus has been featured in two adult novels; the characters, dialogue, and sophisticated plot make this narrative seem more aimed at adults than teens.
