These books provide general overviews of their subjects for young readers. The concise, somewhat dull texts are divided into sections, titled with common questions ("What Do Bears Eat?" "Where Do Rabbits Live?") that describe the animals' appearance, habitat, diet, life cycle, and predators. Each text page faces a striking color photograph. Toucans covers topics such as where they live, what they eat, and how they sleep. Penguins discusses subjects such as physical characteristics, predators, and locomotion. Although blandly written, the brief text in each book is informative and printed in a large typeface, and, except for one poorly reproduced photo in Penguins, the full-page, close-up color photos are eye-catching.
