A child narrates the changes in his parents' lives since he was born--not always reliably. For instance, he describes breakfast before his arrival as "super dull"--but in the pictures his parents look content with their peaceful meal (espresso and croissant for his white dad; matcha and natto for his Japanese mom). Meshon's acrylic art is bold, brightly colored, and appropriately chaotic; the family dog's perspective adds humor.

In this nearly wordless book, a woman bakes red heart-shaped cookies to mail to her grandson. It takes almost every mode of transportation imaginable before the package arrives at its destination. In a visually effective touch, some part of each vehicle (e.g., the tractor's exhaust) turns into a heart, tracing the package's progress. Meshon's digital illustrations feature simply drawn characters within cheerfully cluttered landscapes.

A French bulldog narrates this story of a day spent with his humans--Sis, Mom, and Dad. The friends/siblings wake, eat breakfast, and then head outside. The page design makes clever use of the gutter, with Sis appearing on one side and her dog on the other. The acrylic paintings are saturated with bright colors, and the frequent dialogue balloons feature witty lettering.

A diligent T-square rallies its fellow tools to get to work building a shed. One helpful illustration shows the tools strewn about the lawn, with captionlike arrows to identify what's what. Meshon's lively text is full of tool-centric wordplay; a detailed note describes his process for creating the digitally colored mixed-media illustrations of smiley tools with a can-do attitude.

The lucky boy in this picture book gets to go to ballgames in both the United States and in Japan. Each spread showcases one difference between the locales: hot dog in one place, soba noodles in the other. In the rich-hued acrylic illustrations, team colors (cool blues for America and warm reds for Japan) dominate the pages, helping readers keep track of each location.
