Four little forest creatures have a favorite storybook--it's the only one they own. When they find a new book dropped in the woods, they return it to its owner, Bear, resulting in a happy ending for all five bibliophiles. The well-paced text is full of gentle humor (including a "Goldilocks" riff). Softly textured, earth-toned illustrations emphasize the animals' highly expressive faces and body language.

Bear's grumpy stomping makes Mole's tunnel collapse. Mole angrily throws his shovel, over which Hedgehog trips. The chain reaction continues until Bear finds a present from Mouse, which sparks a good deed, inspiring another, and so on. While the point that small actions can have big consequences is capably made, it deserves less twee illustrations and wording ("Mouse tappity-tap-tapped," etc.).

Mouse Arthur, dressed like a knight, calls for his daddy when his castle collapses, when he falls down, when he catches a "monster" while fishing; each time, Dad calmly comes to the rescue. As thanks, Arthur gives his dad "the biggest hug in the whole kingdom!" While the story and art are sentimental, the pair's love for each other is clear.

Scurry plans to grow a sunflower for Mommy, but younger sibling Scamp innocently eats the seed. The mouse siblings set off on an adventure to find a new "funflower" seed in this treacly tale. Softly textured, pastel-colored illustrations capture the siblings' tender relationship as they work together to plant the new sunflower seed (and find patience to wait for its growth).

Bear Jack plans to spend the night outside in his pirate tent. Sister Lily wants to be included, but Jack is firmly against it: "This is my tent...and my sleepover!" Lily's down but not out. The two siblings forge a truce and imaginations run wild until bedtime. Softly rendered illustrations fit well with this sweet sibling story.

In each of these picture books, a bear cub describes the many wonderful qualities of his parent, detailing a day spent with each. Exploring the natural world and finding comfort at scary moments, the cub expresses a range of emotions that young readers will readily recognize. Edgson's hazy pastel-hued art echoes the softness and sentimentality of the rhyming text. Review covers these titles: Me and My Dad! and Me and My Mom!

Little Bear wants desperately to see snow, though he knows bears must hibernate all winter. He's also worried that his friends Squirrel and Mole will forget about him while they're having seasonal fun. He does finally sleep, and in springtime the pals have a happy reunion. Edgson's soft, cuddly-looking animals are a natural fit with White's simple, relatable text.
