Albert and the Angels

(2) 1-3 Illustrated by Mordicai Gerstein. This Christmas fable has all the classic elements: the spirit of giving, an angel or two, an unexpected miracle, and a talking dog. (OK--maybe not the dog.) Albert wants to buy his mother a gold medallion; but by Christmas Eve he only has eighty-three cents. While the chatty dog is new, a requisite component remains: the happy ending in the warmth of home and family. The full-page art conveys the easy balance of the magical and the everyday.
