Alfred, still an unwilling player in a global game of mythic artifacts and top-secret missions, tries to engineer a deal to return to normal life. Though the prose is beyond purple (a female agent is "a bouncing swirl of golden-haired blondness"), the numerous high-speed chases, involving everything from horses to helicopters, ensure that the target audience will be too engrossed to notice.
