All Year Round

(3) PS Translated by Shelley Tanaka. Joyfully narrating the seasons, a round-faced little boy and his cat are at the center of a dozen short poems that distill the essence of each month. Touching upon the natural world as revealed in childhood pastimes, each poem uses simple and lovely imagery: "The water tickles my hair" while swimming in July, for instance. Feathery-soft colored-pencil illustrations have a nostalgic quality.
