INTERMEDIATE FICTION
Thomas, Jane Resh

Blind Mountain

(2) 4-6 While on a hike, Sam lets a pine bough snap back into his father's face, and his father is temporarily blinded. Thomas captures the mood of a child on the cusp of adolescence. That a twelve-year-old is able to overcome a seven-foot cougar with a hatchet may strain readers' credulity, but it fits the narrative trope well.
