PICTURE BOOKS
Watt, Mélanie

Chester

(3) K-3 In this ostensible picture book in progress, Watt tries to tell readers a story about a mouse, but her cat, Chester, keeps butting in with his red pen, both to alter the text ("Hasta la vista, Mousie!") and disfigure the quaint pictures. This is the best kind of meta-story: unconventional and irreverent but also kid-friendly and comprehensible.
