In the board book edition of the repetitive picture book, toddlers will be reassured that animals have mothers "just like me and you" and that their mothers love them just as "yours loves you." Carle's bold, graphic illustrations are successful in the smaller format, though the final text-only spread is a bit of a letdown: with no art, the closing words face a page of information about animal names (e.g., a baby kangaroo is a joey).
