Though her day starts off badly--a trip to the beach when she'd rather be playing with friends, and an apartment-wide search that turns up only one shoe--Penny salvages it by making ingenious use of her sole flip-flop to find a seaside playmate. Casual gouache and colored pencil illustrations work to make this unassuming tale a satisfying one.
