OLDER FICTION
(4) YA On Hayling Island off the coast of England, fourteen-year-old Alix and her friend, Iraqi refugee Samir, save a man from drowning and discover that he's also an Iraqi refugee dumped by smugglers into the ocean. The teens hide and help the injured man while simultaneously facing Islamophobia and bullying in school and town. Simplistic characters harm the accessibly written story's good intentions.
