Making Music

(4) 1-3 In between watching her baby brother and helping her mother unpack the boxes in their new home, Annie admires the piano music she hears coming from nearby. Soon the fourth-grader and her elderly neighbor, a retired piano teacher, form a bond, based on their shared love of music, that enriches both their lives. The tone of this brief novel is tender, but the unfocused plot too often takes second place to tangential details.
