Mr. Ferlinghetti's Poem

(4) K-3 Frampton introduces Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem "Fortune has its cookies to give out" by describing how, as a child, Ferlinghetti noticed everything around him. Frampton then reproduces the poem on the following pages, decorated with bold, swirling woodcuts. Although the poem (about children cooling off in the spray of a fire hydrant) has tremendous kid appeal, the introductory framing device is awkward.
