Remember Me: Tomah Joseph's Gift to Franklin Roosevelt

(4) K-3 Illustrated by Mary Beth Owens. Soctomah's position as a Passamaquoddy tribe representative lends authenticity to this fictionalized account of chief Tomah Joseph's friendship with young Franklin Roosevelt. During summers on Campobello Island, Joseph shares Passamaquoddy crafts and lore and builds Franklin a canoe. The story and illustrations are overly static, but the book could be useful in classrooms.
