Ten Cents a Dance

(3) YA The demimonde of 1940s Chicago comes to technicolor life in this melodrama about fifteen-year-old taxi dancer Ruby. She's got a saintly ma, a precocious sister, and a bad-boy boyfriend. It's pretty high camp, and the dialogue is expertly redolent: "This business is a slippery sidewalk, kid...and too many people happy to give you the first shove."
