This retelling of Aesop's fable is set in the Imperial Chinese Emperor's summer palace. After the harvest festival the Emperor and his family leave for their winter home, the ants settle into their well-stocked tunnels, and the grasshopper is left alone, hungry and cold. Graceful illustrations of ink and gouache on rice paper successfully render this cautionary fable in an Asian setting.
