Billed as a companion novel to Enchantress from the Stars, this thought-provoking science fiction title is an altogether darker and more disturbing book. Elana is sent to observe a planet that is about to either explore and colonize space or destroy itself. Engdahl poses questions about the nature of "progress" and the dangers of well-intentioned intervention that will amply reward the careful reader.
