The Journey That Saved Curious George: The True Wartime Escape of Margret and H. A. Rey

(2) 4-6 Illustrated by Allan Drummond. In 1940, the Jewish Reys barely managed to escape the invading Germans--on bicycles. An early draft of Curious George was one of the few items they carried with them as they fled occupied France. Borden's quietly dramatic text is enhanced by well-integrated historical and family photos and documents. Drummond's watercolor-enhanced sketches nicely complement Hans's art. These smaller paper-over-board and paperback editions include "A Conversation with Louise Borden" and activities. Bib.
