The Legend of Wingz

(4) 1-3 A boy living in the city longs to fly, so he creates wings and then jumps from on high. His fate uncertain, he becomes a legend. This modern urban fable, which contains classic fairy-tale elements (neighbors are "damsels," "knights," and "noble-types"), is ambitious if thematically heavy-handed and overwritten. The illustrations, which employ oil paint, putty, and cardboard, are inventive and refreshingly unrefined.
