The Old Chisholm Trail

(4) K-3 As he herds his cattle from Texas to Kansas a cowboy recounts his woes in rhyming verse: storms, cattle rustlers, Indians, and outlaws. The text is supposedly based on versions of cowboy songs about the Chisholm Trail, but the book as a whole is more strung-together clichés than a fresh interpretation of the past. Acrylic on wood veneer illustrations are cartoonish without being especially funny. A melody line is appended.
