Rinaldi, Tom

The Red Bandanna

(3) 4-6 Rinaldi recounts the heroism of the legendary "man in the red bandanna" on 9/11, later identified as Welles Crowther. Although working in finance, Crowther always dreamed of being a firefighter. When destruction struck the towers, he guided (and carried) numerous people to safety, making multiple trips back up. The compelling and well-written narrative, adapted from Rinaldi's adult title, celebrates courage, compassion, and true sacrifice. Bib.
