The Shakeress

(4) YA In the early nineteenth century, Naomi Hull lives with the Shakers, then leaves the community to work as a healer and is led to break up with her fiancé to be baptized as a Mormon. Kept personal and nonprescriptive, the spiritual aspect is lightly handled--until the conversion to Mormonism. The novel's shape is unwieldy given the title's direction, but the details of Shaker life (with some errors) are intriguing.
