The Story of Chess

(4) 4-6 Published spring 1998. This hard-to-classify volume demonstrates the fundamentals of chess via a fictional story about a man named Sissa who created the game. Sissa describes how the image of each piece (king, rook, etc.) relates to its range of movement on the board. This information is memorably related, although more difficult concepts of the game are less successfully explained. The artwork is often striking but inconsistent in style.
