In drab Cementland, a boy searches for treasure and finds a box filled with seed packets. After thieves steal some of the seeds, the boy builds a scrap-heap monster named Frog Belly Rat Bone to protect his treasure. Cementland's Edenic transformation is a predictable end to a rambling story line, but the scrawled, hand-lettered text and scraggly illustrations suit the otherwise offbeat story.
