Jasper Rabbit (from the picture-book series and this chapter book series’ previous installment) narrates another tale at least as weird and silly as it is scary. Oliver Possum’s vegan parents conspire to get Oliver and Thaddeus Badger to eat salad, but the salad has its revenge; think were-broccoli. Stark black-and-white illustrations with pops of green break up a text pitched for confidently independent readers with dark senses of humor.
