Readers will learn the purpose of baby teeth, what causes wrinkly skin while bathing, why cilantro tastes like soap to some, and many other things. Each question is answered in simple, kid-friendly language. A virus is described as a “tiny germ that can make you sick.” The digital illustrations in bright, bold colors are often humorous. A glossary and index are appended.

(2) PS Illustrated by Kendra Binney. It is particularly satisfying when the size of the book also reflects the subject of the title. The Tree of Life by Nalini Nadkarni, illustrated by Kendra Binney, with a height of about thirteen inches, provides profiles of trees around the world, including the banyan, dragon blood, and baobab. Make sure older kids discover this gem, with its rich, lush details and enticing facts underneath delicate flaps.

(3) K-3 Illustrated by Susan Deming. Author Payne (a TikTok-famed zookeeper) takes readers behind the scenes of an unnamed zoo, explaining how staff and volunteers feed, train, and care for the animals over the course of a day. Readers are also introduced to the variety of jobs available at the zoo as well as its role in promoting conservation and environmental protection efforts. Appealing soft-toned illustrations depict a variety of happy, healthy zoo residents and their human caretakers and visitors.
