Thirteen-year-old Dinnie travels to Lugano, Switzerland, for a year when her uncle is appointed headmaster of the American School. Reluctantly at first, Dinnie allows experiences, diverse new friends, and unexpected and challenging ideas to push the walls of her world further and further out. The cast of characters are lively, sympathetic, and often amusing, and Dinnie herself is an appealing narrator.
