Ten penguins disappear one by one as they play; one explodes from eating too fast and another falls through a hole in the ice. The final spread shows all the penguins back safely: surprise! It was a joke. The vibrant, graphically imaginative art, diminutive size, and combination of pop-ups and pull tabs have tremendous kid appeal, but the rhyming text falls flat.
