For this story, told in dialogue, Ellis invents a language. First, a dragonfly points to a small green shoot sprouting from the ground. "Du iz tak?" it asks. "Ma nazoot," is its companion's reply. Readers decode meaning from the pictures, and the page design and language get progressively fancier as the green shoot grows through the seasons. A tour de force of original storytelling.
