Jim, Who Ran Away from His Nurse, and Was Eaten by a Lion: A Cautionary Tale

(3) K-3 Illustrated by Mini Grey. Belloc's classic early-twentieth-century poem about a disobedient boy who meets a bad end is given an imaginative treatment. Grey's illustrations effectively mix Victorian formality with wild nonsense. The text is hidden beneath flaps and behind gatefolds, forcing readers to slow down and seek out each line. Humorous axioms ("Children should be eaten and not heard") decorate the endpapers.
