Sing Me to Sleep

(4) YA Wish fulfillment really gets a workout in this overwrought tale about Beth, a talented but hideous-looking teenager who is transformed into a beauty; recognized as a brilliant singer; courted by a handsome but tragic swain, Derek; and consoled by a loyal and gorgeous friend. The exploration of Derek's cystic fibrosis is compelling, but melodrama drowns out some of the love story's nuances.
