Tales of the Amazon: How the Munduruku Indians Live

(4) 4-6 Translated by Jane Springer. Illustrated by Laurabeatriz. This book begins with a fictional story; the next part looks at indigenous Brazilians today. The last section is about the author, a Munduruku Indian; his own encounters with traditional life; and his interactions with Brazilians, who know little about Indians. The author's rhetorical style weakens the text, but his authentic voice can be compelling. Richly colored pastels, line drawings, and some photos of the village add interest. Bib., glos., ind.
