OLDER FICTION
(4) YA For the Snows, sixteen is a pivotal year. Jim stood up to his father in the 1930s; Cathy had a pregnancy scandal in the 1940s; and Mona struggles with family secrets and independence in the present day. The earlier tales with their strong ties across generations strike high notes, while the modern-day story is less compelling, its forced ending too sentimental.
