Soft-edged, muted illustrations accompany this retelling of how organist Franz Gruber composed music for the words to Father Joseph Mohr's poem for a Christmas Eve service. The narrative is vague on the story's time and place, but that and additional information are included in an author's note. A single verse of the carol accompanies the musical score.
