INTERMEDIATE FICTION
Curry, Jane Louise

The Black Canary

(3) 4-6 Twelve-year-old James finds a way into the year 1600 from the London flat where his family is spending a summer; once there, thanks to his remarkable singing voice and exotic skin (he's biracial), he is made a Queen's chorister. James returns to the present with a greater sense of self. While too mechanical to be fully satisfying, Curry's novel has its moments.
