Claude K. Dubois.
In this French import, an omniscient narrator describes a day in the life of an elderly homeless man in an unnamed city. Toward book's end, a girl--the only person to show him kindness in the course of the day--offers him her sandwich. Many of the spreads are wordless, making it hard not to focus on the humanity expressed in Claude K. Dubois's adept sketch-and-watercolor-like illustrations.
