The Rabbi and the Twenty-Nine Witches

(2) K-3 In this droll Eastern European folktale, twenty-nine wicked witches live in a cave near a little village. When the moon is full, they come out to frighten the villagers--unless it's raining. The wise rabbi figures out why the witches fear the rain and vanquishes them forever. The drawings--strong lines washed with black, gray, and blue--rhythmically portray the movement of villagers and witches.
